Fit

What it suits and where it falls short

You type

Short quotes read better than long ones

Best for: A sentence someone said that is the story itself.

Works well for

  • Interview highlights
  • Statements from officials or coaches
  • Lines from a speech
  • Reader comments, with the reader’s permission

Watch out for

  • Quote only words that were said, exactly as they were said; the layout makes them look official.
  • At 4:5 the quote sits in a narrow column: about 90 characters fit at full size, and 200 characters take 13 lines.
  • Without the speaker’s name and role, a quote reads as the page’s own opinion.
